My tips for a delicious and healthier Cinco de Mayo…

  • Buy Baked Tortilla Chips instead of fried – available at Trader Joe’s and major grocery chains.
  • Make fresh Salsa instead of store bought, you get less sodium more vitamins.
  • Use small plates and put your chips and dips on a plate instead of grazing from large bowls.

  • Limit alcohol consumption, saves calories and you tend to lose track of how much you are eating when you drink.
  • Dance! Did you know that Salsa dancing can burn 400-500 calories per hour?

Guacamole

3 Avocados no skin no pits – save 1 pit for later

1 white onion finely diced

Palm size Cilantro chopped

Juice of 2 limes

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1 Jalapeno finely diced – no seeds,

you can add diced tomato as well for a chunkier version.

After you mix it all in a bowl, put a Pit in with the dip to help

reduce browning of your Guacamole.

Heat lovers:  Use Serrano peppers instead of Jalapenos.

Margarita Tips:

Never use a store bought Mix. They are pure high fructose corn syrup. You

can simply use 100% Agave Tequila, Lime Juice, Lemon Juice and Agave

nectar or Stevia to sweeten. Skip the Triple Sec also filled with sugar.

Adding fresh squeezed oranges tastes great, you can also add lime zest.

I like a 1 1/2 juice to tequila ratio, so a pitcher may have 2 cups tequila 3 cups

juice then add sweetener.

Do not add ice until sweetener had dissolved in liquid.

Oh….and HAVE FUN!
